In the early 90's in San Antonio, a city whose geographic soundtrack was then and largely still is, ultra-conservative and basically limited to hard rock, country, and Tejano-style music, Heidi's Head was crafting alternative songs influenced by bands such as The Cure, The Pixies, R.E.M., Echo & The Bunnymen, New Order, Curve, & My Bloody Valentine.
Despite being average musicians, Heidi's Head was professional about holding themselves to a high standard. They rehearsed their set list for over a year before they played their first live show. Rather than begging bar-owners for opening slots on a weeknight to get their start, Heidi's Head rented a historic old theater in downtown San Antonio to play their first "concert". They took out a 1/4 page ad in the local paper to promote the show, hired a professional sound guy to truck in his massive public address, and even rented a professional film editing booth in the weeks prior to the show to produce artistic videos which were projected on an enormous backdrop behind the band while they played that first show.
As much effort as they put into their live shows, they put even more effort into their studio recordings. They booked close to 200 hours of studio space over the course of a year and produced a handful of songs that remain entirely captivating two decades after they were recorded.
